Sting

 It is the mark of a very great singer when he is able to depart from his successful band or group and go out on his own and have a solo career that is even more successful.  One singer/songwriter who has done that is Sting.  His real name is Gordon Summer, but most people have no idea that is his name.  He is from the UK and ever since he got any fame in America he has been called Sting.

 Sting began his career in the 1990s with the band The Police, which had such hits as Every Little Thing She Does is Magic, a great hit that is still popular today.  While with the band, Sting played bass, in addition to doing lead vocals.  The band won several Grammy Awards and Sting also won several on his own.

His solo career began in 1983, when he felt that he had reached the pinnacle of success for a band.  He wanted to try things on his own so he and the other band members went their own ways.  They would reunite for a tour later in 2007, much to their fans' appreciation.

Although he is from England, he was chosen to sing the final song at the Neighborhood Ball the night of the inauguration for Barack Obama.  Fans of Sting can also enjoy playing and singing his music themselves on the Guitar Hero video game.  Only a select number of top notch artists are chosen for Guitar Hero, putting him in good company.

Sting's most recent album was called If On A Winter's Night and came out at the end of 2009.  To celebrate the release of the album, he had a huge concert a few months later in Dubai, which had a crowd of 16,000 people.
