Rodrigo Y Gabriela
Rodrigo y Gabriela is a duo of musicians who first met in their home country of Mexico when they were in a thrash metal band together. Now years later, their genre of music is also leagues away from what they once played. Their unique brand of music can best be described as acoustic rock or acoustic folk and are best known for their phenomenal ability to play guitar. Rodrigo Sanchez plays lead guitar and Gabriela Quintero plays rhythm guitar. In case you are not aware "y" means "and" in Spanish, so their name in English would be Rodrigo and Gabriela. This has created some confusion for English speaking listeners who may not realize it is a duo.

The band first received success in Europe, playing in places like Ireland and throughout the United Kingdom. They had such a unique sound in those parts that it could have gone one of two ways: great success or great failure. Luckily they were quite successful and went on to tour the festival circuit starting in 2005.
Since they got together, they have released six albums. While most of it has been original music, some were covers of very popular rock songs like Stairway to Heaven. Although they seem the antithesis of heavy metal given that they play acoustically, they cite many hard rock bands as their inspiration, including Slayer and Megadeath.
They have been well received in the United States, appearing on MTV, as well as on many talk shows and events. Although it was not instant success, they are happy to have gotten to the place that they are now where they are able to fill large venues with fans eager to hear their unique brand of music.
