Passion Pit

 One of the newer bands in the music scene, with a cool and unique sound is Passion Pit.  They are classified under a few different genres of music including alternative dance music, wonky pop, and electropop.  With music mostly geared for dance clubs, they do not hold back from expressing themselves in a truly honest way.  They are not trying to imitate others, which makes their music that much more special.

 The band began in 2007 and got its name from the slang term for drive-in movie theaters, so named because teenagers often went there to have some romantic alone time.  The group's origin is as unique as it sound.  It began as member Michael Angelakos making some songs for his girlfriend in his dorm room at Emerson College.  He made all the songs on his laptop and later performed the songs using that device as well.   An eventual member of the band was impressed with his work and the group eventually expanded from one member to include five members playing drums, bass, and two people on synthesizer, a much needed instrument in this kind of music.

Passion Pit's success has occurred in both the United States and in the UK.  One of their songs, "Sleepyhead," also is used as a theme song on the television channel Current TV and in some television commercials, showing their wide range of appeal and mainstream possibilities.  Some other songs have been used in very mainstream television shows like Ugly Betty and Big Love.

Passion Pit is currently touring with British band Muse, which will make for a fantastic combination of sounds.  Although you may think that bands like the Passion Pit are better to listen to in a dance club, hearing them live and in person is great as well.  They take great pains to make sure that their live shows are well worth it for their fans.  You can get tickets to see them perform here on EventTicketDepot.
