Alison Hinds

The undisputed Soca Queen, Alison Hinds is back and ready to get the party started. After a successful run as the lead singer for SOCA band, Square One, Hinds made the move to a solo career. Her Caribbean roots are clear on her debut solo album, "Soca Queen." Hinds even has fans where SOCA isn't popular, making her an international star.

Born in England, Hinds moved to Barbados with her mother when she was 11. Being the foundation for her roots and her music, she wasted no time becoming part of Square One. After many successful years as part of the group, she decided it was time to embark on a solo career where she'd have more flexibility for her family.

SOCA music is reggae-style music of the South Caribbean. Its rhythms and lyrics inspire listeners to groove with the beat, wave flags, and sing along to the infectious sounds. The songs are upbeat, inspirational, and tell a story. These are all things that drove Hinds to the genre. Her desire to make music that makes people happy, while telling a story or teaching a lesson is what has made her so successful.

Her first single, "Roll It Gal," is an anthem about empowerment for women. It encourages them to believe in themselves, work hard, and demand respect. The well-received song shot to the top of the charts in many Caribbean countries.
